I earned my MD from the University of Michigan Medical School, and completed residency in psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco, where I served as chief resident at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. I have completed an additional two-year specialization in psychodynamic psychotherapy through the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis, and am currently pursuing advanced training in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies at the California Institute of Integral Studies. I also serve as volunteer clinical professor at UCSF/ZSFG.

Cultural psychiatry, integrative psychiatry, and mindfulness influence my practice philosophy—as does my previous doctoral work in environmental studies at the University of Wisconsin. As a white cisgender man, I am committed to actively exploring my own individual biases, and to collaboratively understanding how race, gender, and other sociocultural identities influence our work together.

I am a psychiatrist licensed in California and a proud resident of San Francisco. I received my M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed my residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. I am also completing additional training in forensic psychiatry at Stanford University.

I became a psychiatrist to help people like my parents, who were refugees from Vietnam, after growing up seeing the consequences that trauma and difficult life experiences can have on mental health. Through my training, I have developed expertise in a wide range of approaches including integrative psychiatry (through the UCSF Osher Center), which allows me to work with you not just on medications and therapy, but also lifestyle changes and whole-body health. I also have experience in different therapy styles that allows me to tailor my approach to your specific situation.
